Domestic Violence Advocacy Program
Volunteers advocates receive initial and ongoing training in providing direct service to victims of intimate partner violence. Volunteer advocates assist victims in petitioning the court for a Protection from Abuse order. They accompany victims to court, provide supportive counseling in person and by phone, educate victims about the cycle of domestic violence and link victims with resources in the community. Volunteer advocates are supervised by staff with extensive experience, education and training in victim services.
This position requires training, empathy, and high ethical standards. We ask for a commitment of at least one year to the program. Volunteers must be able to work at least two 4-hour shifts per month. Daytime availability is required and volunteer placements are available in all three Delaware counties. Most volunteers thoroughly enjoy their experiences assisting victims and they say that it has been transformative for them.
Please contact the Volunteer Coordinator at (302) 255-2283.
Annual 5K Race/Walk Against Domestic Violence
The Annual 5K Race/Walk Against Domestic Violence raises money to provide domestic violence services to the local community.
Money raised from the race allows CHILD Inc. to assist thousands of families affected by domestic violence. We provide these services: two shelters for battered women and their children, sheltering male victims of domestic violence, a 24 hour crisis hotline, clinical treatment services for perpetrators and victims, services for Spanish speaking clients, supervised visitation, and clinical play therapy for children who have witnessed domestic violence.
Each year CHILD, Inc. welcomes volunteers to assist with registration (check in participants, handing out race numbers, distributing t-shirts), at water stops on the course handing out water as participants pass by, as well as course marshals out on the course directing participants to ensure they stay on the course. If you are interested in volunteering for the day, please email or contact Anne Undorf at aundorf@childinc.com or (302) 762-8989.
